1000 Days of Bow Ties

May 15th, 2012 | Posted by RTY in Our Bows in the Wild - (0 Comments)

Earlier this year we profiled Aaron Cocjin and his quest to rock bow ties for 500 days straight.

We were pleased to hear that Aaron inspired NY school teacher Jeff Vasquez who taught for 1000 school days straight without missing a day (what a beast!)  The 1000 day perfect attendance and meeting Aaron at a sneaker meet-up inspired Jeff to go for 1000 days of bow ties to raise awareness about underachievement in the public school system.

Hearing about Jeff and his story we were immediately all-in and shot him one of our spring silks.  Might we say he looks mighty fly in his seersucker.

You can follow Jeff here or help close the achievement gap with a donation here.

Hand Made Film

May 1st, 2012 | Posted by RTY in People in Bowties - (2 Comments)

Lernert and Sander put together this really fun film for the folks over at Wallpaper.  (Both sites are worth checking out btw)

It’s a hand made film of a hand making a suit for a handy hand man.  Hand hand hand hand hand.

Love the part where he picks out his bow!

We showed our love for InvadeNola back in February and it looks like they’ve caught on.

Happily we report we were used as the intro to the fashion section (natch).

And the Commander-And-Chief gets a lil 2 page spread love:

Boom.

You can check out the issue here:

Thanks for the coverage InvadeNola!

The Buff Bow Tie Bunch

April 12th, 2012 | Posted by RTY in People in Bowties - (1 Comments)

I can’t lie, when I first heard the name “Buff Bow Tie Bunch” my mind went immediately to a ripped Patrick Swayze trying out for Chippendales in the classic SNL skit.

But really they’re Bow Tie Buffs who are out to stamp out pajamas around school as U. of Colorado bow tie club president Reed Chervin points out:

“I think the idea is just to have a elevated level of dressing-up on campus.  I think a lot of members in the club get sick of seeing sweatpants at classes.”

We can dig it.  Mighty sharp young man.  Mighty sharp.

And if you need your Chris Farley fix, here’s the clip in its entirety.

How To Dress Your Age

Author Gavin McInnes is definitely on one.

“See any problems with that?  Yes, there’s one pretty major problem.  I’m 41.  41 year olds can’t wear white rims, we cant have our hair in our face.  We have to have babies.”

“Grown men hate shopping- I’d rather french kiss my dad.”

Birth of a Book

April 5th, 2012 | Posted by RTY in Beautiful Things - (0 Comments)

We here at New Orleans Bow Ties like to consider ourselves true fans of the artistry and craft behind beautiful things.  The old way is usually the hard way which is usually the best way.

A great look into how a book is made.

Coming soon- how bow ties are born?
